The Forbidden City
The Forbidden City is located in the center of Beijing and served as the imperial palace for the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties. It was the royal palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties (from 1420 to 1911), with a total of 24 emperors residing and ruling there. The primary function of the Forbidden City was to serve as the residence for the emperor and his family, as well as the center for imperial administration. It included places where the emperor handled state affairs, held major ceremonies, and conducted daily life.
